Tottenham new stadium update: Spurs agree deal to use Wembley for rest of 2018/19 season
Tottenham have agreed a deal to use Wembley Stadium for the remainder of the season should their new ground not be ready before the end of the campaign. It appears it is only the final touches being completed on the redeveloped ground, with Spurs’ famous Golden Cockerel installed earlier this week before a demonstration was held on Thursday showcasing to guests – including directors and department heads – just what the interior will look and sound like on matchdays. The Golden Cockerel was put in place on Tuesday2

There is no chance Spurs will be in the new stadium before the end of 2018, with the club confirming last month that their remaining games this calendar year will be played at Wembley. The national stadium has been Spurs’ full-time home since the beginning of last season, but they were originally meant to play just once there in 2018/19. However, various problems with the new stadium meant Spurs missed their original opening date of September 15, and continuing delays mean the north Londoners have put a contingency plan in place.A statement released by the club said Tottenham have agreed a deal to use Wembley for the rest of 2018/19 should they not be in their new stadium before the campaign ends, though the club reportedly remain confident they will be able to use the ground sometime this term.Wembley has been called home far beyond the intended date2

It is also confirmed that Wembley National Stadium Ltd are to submit a planning application to Brent Council with the view of increasing the capacity of the ground for Tottenham’s remaining matches.Current rules mean the attendance would be capped at 51,000-per-match for every game after November 24’s clash against Chelsea, but the plan is to raise the minimum capacity to 62,000, with additional games allowed the full 90,000 capacity.
