New Oldham Athletic boss Paul Scholes admits he is not worried about potential critics despite scathing punditry career
Paul Scholes has fired a warning to any potential critics after taking over at Oldham Athletic. The Manchester United legend worked as a television pundit after his retirement, regularly voicing his unfiltered opinions about managers and players alike.Paul Scholes is the new manager of Oldham Athletic3

And despite Thierry Henry and Gary Neville failing to transition from pundit to managers, Scholes has warned potential critics he will not care if they begin to dissent. He told Dominic McGuinness: I know we are in League Two so I know there wont be pundits watching these games will there!Im sure there will be people piping up with stuff saying he shouldnt be doing this or that. And do you know what, I dont care. Its about what the owner thinks, its about what the fans think and what the players think.Scholes was one of the most gifted players of his generation3

I always thought when I was doing the punditry and I probably still do why do managers and players take notice of it?Were just giving our opinion on a game and a performance and if people are critical of me I will handle it.I wont have any problem with them, they can say what they want. Like I said, the only people I am interested in are the owners, my staff, the players and the fans.Having won 27 trophies and making more than 700 appearances whilst at Old Trafford, its fair to say Scholes demands respect. The former Manchester United midfielder is an Oldham fan (pictured at an FA Cup game supporting the Latics)3

And with the Latics lingering around mid-table in League Two, the 44-year-old knows he will need to use all his cunning and resources available. With Zack Dearnley already on loan from United, the former England international has admitted he will need to use every contact he has in the game. Its very mush case of me having to add a value, Scholes added. Were not a club thats going to be spending half a million quid on players. Were going to have to rely on local clubs. Like you say, my contacts. And I want to gain the trust of those clubs to look after those players when they come here. United have sent Zak and he has got off to a flying start on Saturday; he definitely changed the game, scored a goal and it was great for him.And thats what I want; I want to gain the trust. But, we have to play a certain way which will gain the trust of the big clubs.Hopefully I can do that.
