Joe Gomez is ‘destined’ to be England’s first choice centre-back for the next ten years, Tony Cascarino believes.The 21-year-old put in a commanding performance at Wemblet on Sunday as England beat Croatia 2-1 to reach the Nations League semi-final, and his long throw led to Jesse Lingard’s goal.And in the coming years, Cascarino suggests the England boss Gareth Southgate will simply have to chose between Harry Maguire and John Stones to partner the Liverpool defender.“For me he is up there with Raphael Varane, of France, as world class,” Cascarino wrote in The Times.“Gomez has everything you need in a centre half and more pace, strength, heading ability, composure and a long throw, too, to provide set-piece chances.“He has a mentality that reminds me of Bobby Moore, in that he does the simple things so well. He sees the ball and goes and wins it. He spots danger and cuts it out. Hesees a pass and plays it. Simple.”
